The Synergy of ShipMate
ShipMate provides the information a full time Ships Engineer would (actually much more) and does it much more concisely and in real time any time.
The Megayachts employ at least one full time ships engineer, sometimes more. Most vessels less than 80 feet do not have the desire to have full time Captains let alone Engineers. While you are an excellent Skipper, it also falls upon you to keep the vessel in peak performance. You need to analyze all the vessels systems under way as well as in port. ShipMate does this for you providing you with the ability to fine-tune your vessel and uses predictive condition analyses to save you time and money.
ShipMate uses the synergy of the vessels existing navigation, engine, systems, sailing, weather and any other instrument platform that can be brought to common interfaces such as NMEA 0183, 2000, CAN, MOD, USB, RS232, BLUETOOTH etc. ShipMate can combine any combination of instruments to create and report trends and conditions as your imagination allows.
ShipMate analyzes the trends
In the world of industrial engineering (Nuclear, Power, Paper, Steel etc) the plants 24/7 operation is monitored and recorded on hundreds if not thousands of chart recorders. Each day these charts are scrutinized and analyzed by the engineering staffs to determine subtle (sometimes, not so subtle) changes that effect the efficiency or safe operation of the plant. ShipMate analyzes the trends for you and provides the troubleshooting skill set of an onsite engineer.
TTA Marine’s NSA (Navis System Analysis Suite™)
The NSA™ principal is that by combining data from multiple sensors and information sources it can trend behavior and predict conditions.
A simple example of just one of the many forms of this synergy between instruments is in ShipMate’s ability to provide enhanced fuel efficiency for any vessel utilizing the GPS, Speed, Log and the Engine data from the bus to provide real time graphing of efficiency through the water, miles per gallon and most importantly, historical trending that displays minor changes over time that sneak up on you such as bottom or prop fouling or damage to the prop. This efficiency is viewed graphically during your entire cruising season, not just numbers on a screen. This also makes ShipMate the best tool to determine optimum prop size and pitch for any given combination of conditions.
Just a few more tricks up ShipMate’s sleeve.
ShipMate can TREND your bilge pumping.
Most bilge monitors at best will tell you how many times the pump turned on.
ShipMate goes an order of magnitude beyond. ShipMate can trend each bilge pump
as to how many gallons it pumped over a period of time and whether this is
increasing or decreasing. ShipMate can tell you at the current rate of pump use, if
your batteries can keep up with the demand. ShipMate has user definable
escalating alarm points with remote reporting to insure the safety of the
vessel.
More tricks
Combining simple weather stations now available with your freeboard profile and displacement, ShipMate can predict anchor conditions and warn you when conditions merit adjustment. ShipMate, of course, will chart and trend barometric pressure and temperature for your forecast.
ShipMate has the ability to take industrial sensors that will finally provide reliable tank measurements amongst many others.
ShipMate is a WHITEBOX
TTA Marine Inc has designed ShipMate to be versatile and open. We publish our source code (GITHUB) for all to use freely and encourage apps to be developed that use the synergy of ShipMate. Blackboxes are closed architecture. WHITEBOX is open!
ShipMate provides these two sensor systems in the base package that have never before been available off the shelf.
1. ShipMate, in real time, will trend your engine oil health utilizing a patented oil sensor that graphically displays at what point your oil is contaminated, your additive package has been depleted, and metals, water, soot or fuel in the oil! Today’s marine engines are a large investment in the vessels cost and maintaining these is more complex that just relying on an hour meter for interval oil changes. The additive package can be used up in as little as 25 hours of operation, which means you would have no protection against sulfuric acid damage amongst many others. Today’s common fuel rail engines are much more susceptible to oil fuel contamination and of course water has always been the enemy. ShipMate detects water contamination as low as 500ppm!
While there are a few oil sensors on the market today, none monitor all these conditions in one nor do they provide the real time engine oil graphic curves that we have developed for the marine engines and transmissions. This same technology has been licensed for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Joint Program by Eaton.
ShipMate comes with one oil sensor and is capable of monitoring as many machines as you wish (generators, transmissions, etc.) with additional sensors.
Benefits of ShipMate’s oil sensor:
· Performs laboratory grade oil analysis 24/7
· Increases equipment life-cycle and decreases equipment downtime
· Provides peace of mind
· Saves time and money by reducing or even eliminating the need for expensive
· and time consuming laboratory oil analysis
· Takes the guess work out of oil changes
· Optimizes oil change schedule
· Works with all gasoline and diesel engines and transmissions
· Works with all oil types and brands
· Ease of installation
2. ShipMate, in real time, using the IEEE Standards, will trend the batteries and charger conditions. Today’s modern deep cycle batteries should be able to last at least 10 years if properly maintained. Some battery companies offer 20-year warranties with this proven system. ShipMate’s graphically displayed data will show current battery health, remaining charge left in the battery, anticipated time to low voltage at present use and whether your charging system is optimized for the longest battery life over the years. It will display the out of bounds charging characteristics and provide optimization solutions as well as user definable alarms with remote reporting to insure the safety of the vessel.
According to the BOATUS Marine Insurance claim files, for every vessel that sinks underway, four sink in their slips. 32% of these are due to rain or snow combined with low battery conditions hence the failure of the bilge pumps(s). ShipMate will notify you before this can occur.
ShipMate comes with one battery sensor set but can monitor as many battery banks as required with additional sets.
At the heart of ShipMate is a marinized, fanless, hardened EPIC microcomputer designed and built to mil specs with no moving parts. Using flash drives in lieu of hard drives and the speed of an Intel Atom 330 processor. Efficient both in power use and space, ShipMate features marinization, a hardening process that consists of vibration dampening, and a corrosion control process using VCI's (vapor corrosion inhibitors) and conformal circuit board coating. Enclosed in a ruggedized case (IP65 optional) this fanless design takes corrosion control one-step further by limiting the airflow through the unit. The uncirculated air is warmed by the internal components, resulting in a very dry environment, regardless of outside humidity. Because of its small footprint and the lack of audio and RF noise, ShipMate is well suited for satellite, Sitor, Packet, WiFi and SMS communication for remote information analysis and alarms.
